NUTRITION OF MILITARY PERSONNEL OF UKRAINIAN ARMED FORCES IN JOINT FORCES OPERATION CONDITIONS: PROBLEMS AND COMPARATIVE EVALUATION OF INDIVIDUAL FOOD RATIONS
Abstract
Purpose: to study servicemen nutrition of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in hostilities conditions based on food standards No. 10 and No. 15, as well as to conduct a comparative assessment of these standards taking into account servicemen feedback.
Methods: a sociological study of military personnel in the Joint forces operation zone within the territory of Donetsk and Lugansk regions according to the assessment of individual rations (norm No. 10 and norm No. 15) and comfort of usage has been conducted. The number of respondents in 2015-2016 was amounted to 287 people, in 2017-2018 - 240 servicemen. The assessment of packaging regarding the carrying and opening of rations, the range of dishes and food in rations, the taste of dishes and products, data on the possibility of consumption of dishes in a heated form has been studied. Used methods: sociological, hygienic, statistical. A comparative assessment of domestic individual rations at the rate of No.10 and the rate of No. 15.
Results. According to military personnel notes, the daily field ration of products - norm No. 15 had unconditional advantages over the usual set of dry products at the norm No. 10 due to the availability of first and second ready-to-eat meals, improving the taste and variety of these dishes, as well as the range of products. Respondents also noted a number of significant shortcomings of the norm No. 15, with regard to violations of the tightness of the retort packaging due to punctures or sealing defects of packaging seams and a short shelf life - from 10 to 18 months.
Conclusion: The obtained results indicate the need to further improve the tightness of the retort packaging, the terms of sterilization and prolonging shelf life of ready-to-eat dishes in the retort packaging as well as searching for a new modern packages for individual combat rations of Ukrainian Armed Forces military personnel.
